How to set a static IP in Linux using ifconfig

I realized that I had not yet learned to set a static IP in Linux from start to finish, so I set upon it to make it happen. I found a bunch of solutions online, some involving editing the network configuration files manually, and a few others using ifconfig.

For me, ifconfig was by far the easiest way to set a static IP on my Linux box.

Here's the example I found online:
ifconfig eth0 10.1.7.13 netmask 255.255.255.0 up

I found it here.
