How to GET a webpage with telnet.exe

Note: In Vista you will have to install telnet from the 'turn windows features on or off' link on the left hand side of the add/remove programs window (appwiz.cpl). In XP it's on by default. Closer to the times, i guess :-D.

So, open up a command shell (start, run, cmd). Then issue the command:

telnet 80

The window will look blank, but you're really at the beginning of a website transaction. Type:

get HTTP/1.1

Notice the website code comes down in front of you, right in the telnet session... just how your browser would see it. Useful for testing websites without using a browser or worrying about 'tom-cachery'.
